THE NAME MARYLAND

What is now known as Maryland Comprehensive Secondary School did not exist overnight. It is an answer to the prayer of Rev. Mother Arcade O.L.A. (R.I.P.). She actually prayed to Our Lady that this land (Maryland compound) be given to the Catholic Mission to establish a school. She made a promise that if the request was granted by Our Lady, the land would be named after her. Thus, her request was granted and the land was named “Maryland” in 1950 – a name that has become the landmark in the fast spreading Lagos metropolis of today.

GLAA EDUCATIVE, INFORMATIVE & EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM SERIES 13 (training update)

Congratulations to 97 members of GLAA  who registered for the Entrepreneurship course from January 17th through 21st.  Most of them attended the 13th Empowerment and Educational program which took place virtually on Saturday 8th January. Guest speaker was Nonye Umahi the CEO of CUANU the trainer for the forthcoming Enterprise Development Training Program.

Registration for the Training program was by Landers from the various sets with Class of 2004 having the highest registration.

GREAT LANDERS ALUMNI ASSOCIATION (GLAA) 2021 SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS CEREMONY.

Friday 23rd July 2021 our Alma Mater, Maryland Comprehensive Secondary School Ikeja, played host to the Umbrella Body of the Old Students Association, Great Landers Alumni Association (GLAA). The occasion was the End of Term Thanksgiving Mass & Induction Ceremony of the 2021/2022 School Prefects, whereby the Association also made the presentation of her 2021 GLAA Scholarship Award to two indigent students of MCSS.

The GLAA EDUCATIONAL FUND PROJECT, an initiative of the current Executive whose mission through the EDF is to ensure that education becomes a right, not a privilege through the advancement of creative solutions to ensure equity and excellence in education for brilliant, indigent and vulnerable students. The GLAA 2021 Scholarship Awards is the maiden edition and will be a yearly program whereby Need based, Merit and Scholarships for talented Students will be awarded at the End of School Sessions.

This year (2021) the two Need Based Awards given were:

  1. Great Landers Alumni Association Award
  2. Lander. Dr. Francis Adelaja Award.
